Our Story

Rooted in
Asheville since 1935

Woodfin Fire Department was established in 1935 to serve the growing Woodfin community — a neighborhood that has been part of Asheville's fabric for over a century. What began as a small volunteer crew with a single engine has grown into a professional department staffed around the clock.

Our station at 20 New Street has been a landmark in the area for generations. We respond to calls across the Woodfin district and support neighboring districts when emergencies exceed local capacity. Our team trains continuously — from advanced fire suppression to technical rescue — because the mountains of Western North Carolina present unique challenges that demand readiness.

Beyond emergency response, we are deeply invested in prevention. We believe the best call is the one that never comes, and we work every day with Asheville residents, businesses, and schools to reduce risk before it becomes a crisis.
